When cats greet each other it is face to face. When a cat rubs around your legs it is an adaptation of that cat to cat greeting. Some cats will try to jump to a higher location to try and greet us face to face. What our feline friends aren't telling us is that they are actually exchanging scent with us. Cats are smell orientated animals and like to have familiar smells around them. So by rubbing around us they mark us with their own scent.
Special scent glands are based at the tail, the corners of the mouth and on the temples. Once marked, the cat licks the part of him he has justed rub on us therefore tasting our scent.
The reason for your cat's behaviour maybe due to an underlying medical reason. If you are concerned about your cat, always consult your vet or a cat behaviourist for professional, qualified advice.
